US Coast Guard Cutter Barque Eagle - America's Tall Ship
This is a short "behind the scenes" high definition music video of the United States Coast Guard Cutter "Barque Eagle". This footage was shot during a two week cruise between July 13th and July 27th 2007. The cruise began in Veracruz, Mexico and ended in Miami, Florida. This short, rough cut footage is part of a much longer documentary of the US Coast Guard Cutter Barque Eagle. The feature length film is scheduled to be completed by July 2008. Stay tuned for more footage of the Barque Eagle!

US Navy - Demonstration of the Eagle Eye VTOL UAV
The Yuma Proving Grounds in Arizona are the site of demonstration flights of the Bell Helicopter Textron Eagle Eye VTOL UAV (vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicle). The tiltrotor Eagle Eye is going through three months of evaluation by the Navy, which is considering procurement of a VTOL UAV for deployment on board surface warships. After passing the government's test readiness review, the Eagle Eye was shipped to Yuma for the Navy-sponsored demonstration. The UAV is scheduled to complete 37 sorties in 50 flight hours; the test program will include hover, transition to airplane mode, altitude and airspeed envelope expansion, fuel consumption evaluation, waypoint navigation, and mission profiles. The mission profiles are being flown with an Ultra 3000 FLIR/TV (forward-looking infrared / television) payload. The Eagle Eye demonstrator is a 7/8-scale version of the proposed production model, which is designed to fly up to 200 knots carrying a 200pound payload 110 miles to a search area, remain on station for three hours, transmitting imagery, and return to ship, landing in high winds and sea states. Guidance is accomplished through a data link; navigation is aided by a ring-laser gyro-based inertial navigation system. The Eagle Eye is small enough to be carried in the cargo bay of a C-2 COD (carrier-onboard delivery) aircraft or a V-22 tiltrotor transport. A C-130 transport aircraft can carry four Eagle Eyes; two C-130s can carry a rapiddeployment detachment of four Eagle Eyes, plus payloads, spares, support, control, and maintenance equipment. The UAV has a deck-spotting factor 25 percent that of the SH-60B helicopter currently operated from Navy ships. Future shipboard testing is expected to feature integration of the Eagle Eye with the UCARS (unmanned common automatic recovery system) and the TCS (tactical control station). In the contract competition with the Eagle Eye are the Bombardier CL-327 Guardian and the SAIC Vigilante (see related article in the March 1998 issue of Sea Power).
